Anne Maassen is the Urban Innovation & Finance Associate at the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. She leads WRI’s work on the Financing Sustainable Cities Initiative, a partnership between WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities and C40 Cities, funded by the Citi Foundation, focused on helping cities develop business models to accelerate the implementation of sustainable urban solutions. Anne works closely with teams across WRI programs and country offices, as well as WRI’s partner organizations.
Anne previously worked on climate finance project development and evaluation for a range of multilateral development banks and agencies. She also consulted at the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs) on results reporting and at the World Bank Group on the Science of Delivery agenda and Competitive Cities. She has provided strategic advice to governments, multilaterals and non-profits, and has published and peer-reviewed studies on urban sustainability.
Anne holds a PhD in Geography from Durham University (UK), with a focus on urban sustainability and innovation, as well as an MSc in Environmental Monitoring, Modelling & Management (King’s College London, UK) and a BA in Economics, Politics & International Studies (University of Warwick, UK).
