Anne Maassen

Energy, Climate, And Finance Associate

Anne Maassen is the Energy, Climate, and Finance Associate for the Energy & Climate practice area at the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. Her work focuses on improving the sustainability of urban services in the energy, building, and transport sectors so that cites can meet the vital needs of citizens and local businesses while achieving local and global sustainability benefits. By analyzing delivery models and financing mechanisms, Anne is working to build an understanding of what sustainable service solutions are doable, how, and under what conditions. Given the interdisciplinary nature of her work, Anne works closely with teams across WRI programs and country offices, as well as WRI’s partner organizations.

Anne previously worked on climate finance project development and evaluation for a range of multilateral development banks and agencies. She also consulted at the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs) on results reporting and at the World Bank Group on the Science of Delivery agenda and Competitive Cities. She has provided strategic advice to governments, multilaterals and non-profits, and has published and peer-reviewed studies on urban sustainability.

Anne holds a PhD in Geography from Durham University (UK), with a focus on urban geography and innovation in sustainable urban technology, as well as an MSc in Environmental Monitoring, Modelling & Management (King’s College London, UK) and a joint honors BA in Economics, Politics & International Studies (University of Warwick, UK).
