Binoy Mascarenhas is Manager – Urban Transport and Road Safety at WRI India Sustainable Cities. He leads WRI’s road safety program in India under the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety. He is responsible for managing road safety projects in India, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Binoy also leads WRI’s sustainable urban transport work in the Mumbai region, including projects on public transport and non-motorised transport. He oversees the management of Equal Streets - Mumbai’s weekly, open streets program.
Binoy has participated in road safety audits, inspections and road redesign projects in a number of cities in India, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, and Indore. He has conducted capacity development programs on urban transport and road safety in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Binoy has close to 10 years of experience in urban transport, economics, statistical analysis and road safety. He has previously worked at IL&FS in Mumbai and Genpact, (formerly GE Capital) in the United States and Hyderabad. He holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from CEPT University, Ahmedabad; and a Master’s Degree in Economics from Gokhale Institute, Pune. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
