Tanushri Gupte is a Manager of Urban Transport and Road Safety at WRI India Ross Center. Her responsibilities include engaging with state level public agencies to influence transport policy by encouraging a safe systems approach to road safety. She also conducts research in road safety and is particularly interested in how data can be used to inform policy. She works in WRI India’s Mumbai office.
Tanushri has ten years of experience in the public and private sectors. Prior to joining WRI India, she worked as a planner, freelancing in transportation demand modeling projects and as a Project Manager with Institute of Urban Transport (IUT). During her stint at IUT, she worked on Government of India’s Sustainable Urban Transport Project (GEF-SUTP). While working as a Research Assistant at University of Illinois at Chicago, Tanushri researched ways to improve public transit ridership with an emphasis on discounted pass programs.
Tanushri holds a Masters in Urban Planning and Policy from University of Illinois at Chicago and a Bachelors in Physical Planning from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. She has always been interested in the “people” component of urban transportation and was the recipient of Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) President’s Legacy Scholarship (Greater Chicago Chapter) in 2008.
