Impact of Raahgiri Day: Participants, Local Business, Environment & Safety
June 12, 2014
EMBARQ India and WRI India hosted a webinar on Raahgiri Day and its impact on June 12, 2014. The webinar slides walk through the impact that Raahgiri Day – which temporarily closes certain stretches of road space to automobiles and opens them to people – has created in Gurgaon, India.
Raaghiri Day creates a new safe, healthy, eco-friendly, and vibrant city street experience. Streets are public assets, but on most days are monopolized by cars, two-wheelers, and trucks. This movement is an attempt to prioritize cyclists and pedestrians in Gurgaon, and to build a city with bicycle paths and pedestrian avenues interwoven through its urban landscape.
