Parking - An effective tool to manage travel demand in transit-oriented developments?
July 11, 2014
Dr. Paul Barter, world renowned parking expert, and Pawan Mulukutla, Program Manager, EMBARQ India presented the role of parking in transit-oriented development (TOD) neighbourhoods during a webinar on July 11, 2014. An oversupply of parking spaces increases congestion around transit stations, thereby inhibiting walkability around transport hubs and decreasing their accessability. There is an urgent need for city planners in India to reconsider existing parking norms and develop options for parking reduction within TOD areas. Dr. Barter and Mr. Mulukutla looked into the role of parking space in TOD neighbourhoods and how it can be better designed to benefit communities living around them.
