The presentation is from a webinar hosted by EMBARQ Mexico. Jesus Rios Aguilar, Director General of the Planning Institute of Colima, and Elizabeth Gariel Ivonne Ramirez, Community Planning Assistant Technician talked about the importance of participatory processes in the design of public spaces. For years in Mexico, the design of public spaces has been carried out exclusively by government administrations, ignoring the voices of community residents. This has weakened the sense of ownership and the identity of the communities around public spaces. The "Manual for Participatory Processes in the Design of Public Spaces" is a standardized product combining international practices and local context, and seeks to engages citizens before, during and after the design process.
