Apply Now to Participate in or Host the Next Leaders in Urban Transport Planning (LUTP) Workshop
Since May of 2013, EMBARQ Mexico has worked with the World Bank to host the annual Leaders in Urban Transport Planning (LUTP) program in Mexico, Colombia and Peru. Organized by the World Bank, its sponsors and local institutions, the LUTP program convenes transport professionals from across the globe to meet and learn about the systemic planning of integrated mobility, corridor management and sustainable alternatives for public transport. With the 2016 LUTP workshops on the horizon, applications for new Latin American host cities and signups to participate in this year’s Lima course are now open.
LUTP Workshops: Creating Leadership for Urban Sustainable Mobility
LUTP courses hinge on exchanging best practices, bringing together experts in city planning to work on and explore sustainable urban mobility projects. The workshops recognize that the best way to learn is through practice, and are based on a "hands-on" methodology. In short, each conference has two parts: (1) in the lead up to the workshop is a “self-learning phase” which consists of 24 hours of material spread out over 5 weeks; (2) then, participants gather for a seven day, immersive workshop to analyze case studies, engage in group exercises and conduct site visits on urban transport systems.
To put their skills to the test, participants must work together to solve a specific case study, making recommendations that will be presented at the end of the week before a jury; the judging group will be composed of public officials of the host city, World Bank officials and experts from the EMBARQ Network.
By the end of the course, participants are expected to have become more knowledgeable on:
- Harnessing political capital: all transport decision, plans and projects require political will and strategy.
- Understanding the technical side: transport leaders must interact with experts in the field, implementing projects in the most efficient way possible.
- Resourcefulness: Leaders must make the most of resources available effectively.
