Bike racks installed in heart of historic Porto Alegre, Brazil
Cyclists in Porto Alegre, Brazil, can now take advantage of two new bike racks located at the heart of this historic state capital. The Santander Cultural Center sponsored the project at the Alfândega Square, with technical support from EMBARQ Brazil. In total, twelve “inverted-U” racks will provide space to accommodate 24 bicycles.
The project aims to promote the use of bicycles in the historic city center, which recently saw the installation of a bike lane on the Avenue Sete de Setembro and the inauguration of BikePoa - Porto Alegre’s public bike-sharing system. In addition to encouraging the use of non-motorized transport around Porto Alegre, the presence of cyclists constitutes an important step towards the recovery of urban vitality and social life in the heart of the city.
