India Director Madhav Pai Receives Parivartan Trailblazer Award for Leadership in Urban Mobility
Sustainability Outlook, a leading market access, insight and collaboration platform tracking actions related towards sustainability in India, has recognized Madhav Pai, Director of WRI Ross Center in India, as Parivartan Trailblazer of the Year 2015. The prestigious award is a recognition of Pai’s outstanding leadership establishing our Center’s EMBARQ sustainable urban mobility initiative in India.
Pai helped launch EMBARQ in India 9 years ago. Since then, the team has grown to over 40 professionals in 4 offices across and has provided support for sustainable mobility and urban development projects in more than 15 cities. Notable successes include iBus BRT in Indore, BIG Bus Network in Bangalore, Raahgiri car-free day in Delhi & Gurgaon, transit-oriented development (TOD) in Hubli Dharwad and the Rickshaw Rising innovation challenge. Additionally, Madhav has published extensively, including papers on auto rickshaws, motorcycle safety, informal public transport, reorganizing city bus systems, bus rapid transit (BRT) and the long term externalities of urban transport systems. He is the lead author of "Bus Karo" a guidebook on bus operations and planning.
The Parivartan Sustainability Leadership Awards celebrate individuals who have demonstrated leadership and innovation in moving India’s private sector forward in sustainability. Based on a rigorous selection process, the Trailblazer of the Year award is given to an industry leader who has helped shaped the sustainability trajectory of the Indian industry.
