UN-HABITAT-sponsored Quick Guides open to review

Safer, cleaner and affordable transport for all is the focus of a partnership between UN-HABITAT and EMBARQ.
UN-HABITAT, the United Nations agency for human settlements, is promoting sustainable urban development and adequate shelter for all. The joint initiative is a sustainable transport effort highlighting the needs of poor and vulnerable groups, and strives to make urban mobility planning more participatory, and to improve access for all to transport possibilities.
Four Quick Guides for UN-HABITAT
EMBARQ is producing a series of four Quick Guides on Urban Mobility for UN-HABITAT by March 2013, and inviting experts to review them Feb. 1-15, 2013:
- Developing an Urban Mobility Plan (download);
- Establishing a Metropolitan Transport Authority (download);
- Developing an Urban Mobility Compact (download);
- Establishing a Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Urban Mobility (download).
A Participatory Process
As recommended in the guides, the EMBARQ process to produce the Quick Guides is participatory. As EMBARQ is developing the series aimed at city officials to improve urban mobility, current files are available in “draft” version for review and comments until February 15, 2013 noon GMT. EMBARQ seeks additional case studies of examples of good (or bad) practices, and comments on the documents.

If you want to review and send your comments: Download the quick guides (links at the bottom of this page) and/or email Dr. Robin King, Director, Urban Development and Accessibility at EMBARQ at robin.king@wri.org. Those who provide comments and feedback will be acknowledged by name in the final version of the guide.
