Brasil team offers recommendations to decrease congestion in the area’s Administrative CenterJanuary 06, 2016

Over the past four months, WRI Brasil Sustainable Cities, in partnership with the state government of Minas Gerais, conducted research on commute patterns in the Administrative Center of Minas Gerais (ACMG). Through data analysis, the research project aims to improve corporate mobility and identify measures with the potential to improve the quality of life of workers and promote more sustainable transport patterns in the workplace. The ACMG features modern and high capacity buildings serving 17,000 employees.

On December 15, 2015, the Open Government Partnership (OGP)—a multilateral initiative that secures commitments from governments to solve public policy challenges, and a partner of WRI—announced the launch of a new pilot program. The program, approved at the OGP Global Summit in October 2015, fulfills the need to engage with local governments and actors to foster transparency.

On October 31, 2015 WRI India Sustainable Cities hosted a roundtable that provided a forum for various stakeholders in the Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) Sector to comment on the new City Taxi Scheme 2015. This new policy, submitted in October, was drafted by the Maharashtra state to create a level playing field for black-and-yellow taxis, taxis fleets and aggregators.

WRI India and V Ravichandar, the Chairman and Managing Director of Feedback Business Consulting Services Pvt. Ltd., hosted a meeting with Bangalore city officials Karnataka Chief Minister, S Siddaramiah, and Minister for Bangalore Development and Town Planning, KJ George on November 17th, 2015. The forum, held in Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore convened local decision makers to discuss strategies for addressing the urban mobility challenges faced by the city.

PARIS (December 7, 2015)—At Energy Day, COP21, several cities and subnational jurisdictions, businesses, and organizations joined the Building Efficiency Accelerator (BEA).
Launched in 2014, the BEA supports the UN Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) goal of doubling the rate of energy efficiency by 2030 by improving energy efficiency in buildings.

Today (December 3), during the COP21 Buildings Day, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) pledged a $2 million grant to WRI to support the implementation of local building efficiency policies and actions in cities around the world. Announcing the partnership was Dr. Naoko Ishii, CEO and Chairperson of GEF, and Andrew Steer, President and CEO of WRI.

PARIS (December 2, 2015)– The 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) initiative today announced new signatories to the 10% Resilience Pledge, with a total of 19 mayors and city leaders committing to dedicate 10 percent of their city's annual budget toward resilience-building activities throughout their term in office.

WRI Turkey Sustainable Cities organized the third Livable Cities Symposium on November 19-20 in Istanbul, with over 400 representatives from local governments, the private sector, NGOs and universities in attendance. The Symposium focused on creating smart and energy efficient cities—hosting a total of 45 speakers from 13 different countries.
