WASHINGTON (March 23, 2018)—An estimated 1.25 million people are killed and a staggering 50 million are injured in traffic collisions each year. Yet, road safety remains a remarkably low political priority in cities around the world, a new study warns. In many cases, road safety is seen to be in direct conflict with other priorities, such as reducing congestion or shortening journey times.

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) 97th Annual Meeting will be held in Washington, D.C. on January 7 -11. The program covers all modes of transportation, with more than 5,000 presentations in nearly 800 sessions and workshops. WRI is an active TRB participant, each year presenting numerous papers and presiding workshops and committees, and has won two prestigious Burggraf Awards in recent years.
