ROTTERDAM, The Netherlands (January 25, 2021) — At the Climate Adaptation Summit 2021, the mayors of Miami, Paris, and Rotterdam joined WRI, the Global Center on Adaptation, and more than three dozen other cities, NGOs and governments to confirm the urgency to act now on climate adaptation, commit to support further development and implementation of the new 1000 Cities Act Now initiative, and call on leaders to support and facilitate this global program.

Ross has committed $63.5 million to support WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, bringing his total contribution to the program to $100 million, to make cities worldwide more resilient, inclusive and sustainable.

Three new researchers – Abisai Konstantinus, Jungwoo Chun and Fariba Siddiq – have been awarded the Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship for Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency. Since 2012, the international scholarship has been awarded annually to two outstanding research candidates, recognizing transformative research proposals that challenge conventional wisdom in sustainable transport and energy efficiency. This year, with support from the Volvo Research and Educational Foundation (VREF), a third scholarship was added, tailored specifically to African researchers.

On September 21, WRI and partners in the Africa Mobility Initiative (AMI) selected nine startups for the 2020/2021 cohort through AMI’s Africa Transformative Mobility Accelerator (ATMA). AMI’s vision is to create a vast network of continental and global transformative mobility enthusiasts, who work together to create sustainable and scalable solutions to mobility challenges in Africa.
