On March 4, 2014, Holger Dalkmann, Director of EMBARQ, together with WRI China’s Director Lailai Li and EMBARQ China’s Director Haitao Zhang, met with Xinwen Wang, Deputy Mayor of Jinan, to strengthen the relationship between the World Resources Institute (WRI), EMBARQ China, and the city of Jinan, which is home to 6.8 million people.

CONNECTKaro 2014 saw nearly 300 participants at Bangalore's ITC Gardenia hotel. On top of that, over 1,000 participants around the world tuned in to the live webcast at connectkaro.org. The event was truly collaborative, with attendees and panelists engaging in dialogue around the key themes of transit-oriented development (TOD), urban development and urbanization, traffic safety, non-motorized transport, and more. EMBARQ India's second annual CONNECTKaro conference brought hundreds of stakeholders in sustainable transport and urban development into conversation with one another. The conference saw over 300 participants while thousands more joined sessions online. Through 15 sessions across two action packed days, CONNECTKaro brought together academics, students, bureaucrats, and practitioners on a common platform to discuss how to make Indian cities more livable and sustainable.

Having launched on March 8, 2014, Belo Horizonte’s first bus rapid transit (BRT) system – called "MOVE" – has already had significant benefits for the city’s residents. Aiming to test its efficiency, a local press team traveled the same route by BRT and car and testified: MOVE is five times faster than the car.

EMBARQ Turkey recently conducted a study on 69 bus lines operated by Istanbul Electricity, Tramway and Tunnel General Management (IETT) in Istanbul, Turkey. The study aims to understand the interactions of IETT’s 69 bus lines with Istanbul’s other transport modes - including the IDO ferry system, minibuses, and bicycles - with the goal of defining strategies to connect each transport mode and facilitate integrated and high quality service.

EMBARQ India, in collaboration with the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), Government of Karnataka, will be hosting the second edition of its annual conference, CONNECTKaro. The event will be held at the ITC Gardenia in Bangalore, India on March 10 and 11, 2014.

EMBARQ Turkey has worked to improve cycling infrastructure and cycling conditions in Turkey since 2010. As a whole, the team of urban planners and traffic safety experts have made enormous inroads in developing an appealing environment for cyclists by improving intersections, training city officials on bicycle planning, and promoting policies that support non-motorized transport.
