EMBARQ is a member of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Center of Excellence, along with four internationally renowned academic institutions: Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Instituto Técnico Superior de la Universidad Técnica de Lisboa, and the University of Sydney’s Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies. The BRT Center of Excellence is funded by the Volvo Research and Educational Foundation.

The BRT Center of Excellence produces research and analysis to support the successful deployment of existing and proposed BRT systems. Through the consortium, EMBARQ has produced BRTdata.org, an information database for all BRT and high-quality bus corridors around the world. EMBARQ also leads and contributes to research on BRT operations and control strategies. Research generated by the BRT Center of Excellence contributes to global knowledge about BRT systems and helps influence decision makers to plan and implement better BRT projects that improve quality of life for urban residents.
