To accommodate a growing population and expanding downtown, the city of Şanlıurfa in southeastern Turkey is in need of a high-capacity public transport system. Looking to increase bus ridership and reduce traffic congestion, the Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality implemented a bus rapid transit (BRT) system in early 2015. At the request of the Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, our team in Turkey conducted a road safety and accessibility inspection and audit of the BRT corridor. Our field work and analysis resulted in a report that outlines deficiencies with the corridor, and provides recommendations for improving road safety and access.
