Emmerentian (Emma) is the Project Specialist for the Cities program at WRI Africa and is based in Kampala, Uganda. She works with government ministries, departments and agencies to expand program visibility and impact and influence decision-makers to advance sustainable transport solutions.
Prior to joining WRI, Emmerentian was a Research Fellow at the Uganda National Roads Authority where she led the transport services and management line of research.
Emmerentian holds a PhD in Urban Studies from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Her thesis considered sustainable travel by exploring the factors in individuals' life courses that influenced a change of commute mode. She was awarded an MSc with distinction in Urban and Regional Planning from the same university and holds a BSc Honours in Construction Management from Makerere University, Kampala.
Emmerentian lives in Kampala with her husband, Tamba and their three children.
