Prerna is Associate Director of Urban Development at WRI India. She is an urbanist with 16 years of extensive experience in project management, urban research and planning, real estate, architecture, and capacity building. She conducts the urban development work on advancing sustainable development in Indian cities to enable on-ground impactful interventions and knowledge building. Her current practice areas are Climate Smart Cities, Liveable Neighbourhoods, Innovation & Start-ups, and Capacity Building. The key subjects of her work includes Transit Oriented Development, Land Value Capture, Form Based Codes, Public Spaces, Tactical Urbanism, Safe access, Neighbourhood Improvement Plans, toolkits, and awareness Initiatives like Raahgiri. Prerna has formulated several national, state and city level policies, regulations as well as guidelines for national and city government in India. She also provides technical inputs to various committees, reports and policies anchored by city, state, and national governments in India. She helps form and sustain partnerships with government and non-governmental organizations involved in urban development with objective to achieve sustainable on-the-ground change.
Prior to WRI India, Prerna worked for government organization, non-governmental organizations and private/corporate organizations. Her portfolio had projects such as Master Plans, Area & Integrated Development Plans, feasibility studies, project formulation and large-scale real estate construction. Besides, she has been associated with premier institutions like School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi as visiting faculty as well as guest lecturer and with CEPT Ahmedabad as Industry expert.
Prerna has earned her Master’s degree in Planning (Housing) from School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi, India, a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Nagpur University, India, and a diploma in Principles and Practices of Real Estate from Indian Institute of Real Estate, Pune, India. Besides, she has undertaken several certificate courses on managing cities.
